Array Research Project
Whether forests exhibit evergreen or deciduous leaf phenology largely affects biogeochemical cycles and the functioning, structure and biodiversity of ecosystems. These leaf phenology types may be self-promoted through positive plant-soil feedbacks, ultimately leading to the emergence of alternative stable states of forests at a landscape scale. Here, we test the presence of alternative stable states using forest inventory data at the continental (North America) and global scale. In addition, we make global mapping of bimodality in forest leaf phenology through machine learning models, based on the GFBi data.
